Before Operation

Preparing for a hair transplant is just as important as the procedure itself. At Adem Köse Clinic, we believe that a well-informed patient experiences smoother healing, better results, and greater peace of mind. This guide provides all the essential steps and precautions to follow in the days leading up to your surgery.

1. Medical Evaluation & Final Approval

Before confirming your operation date, you will undergo a thorough medical evaluation. This includes:

  • A review of your medical history
  • Assessment of current medications and chronic conditions
  • Blood tests if required
  • Scalp analysis and donor area evaluation

Important:
Please disclose any underlying conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid issues, etc.) or past surgeries. This ensures a safe and personalized surgical plan.

2. Medications to Avoid Before Surgery

Certain medications can increase bleeding risk or interfere with healing. You must stop taking the following at least 7 days before the procedure, unless otherwise advised by your doctor:

  • Blood thinners (e.g., aspirin, warfarin)
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen)
  • Herbal supplements (e.g., ginseng, ginkgo biloba, garlic pills)
  • Vitamin E, fish oil, or multivitamins in high doses

Always consult your clinic if you’re unsure about any supplement or drug you’re using.

🚭 3. Smoking, Alcohol, and Caffeine Use

  • Stop smoking at least 7 days prior to your operation. Nicotine restricts blood flow and reduces graft survival.
  • Avoid alcohol for 3–5 days before surgery. Alcohol increases bleeding risk and can interfere with anesthesia.
  • Limit caffeine intake (coffee, energy drinks) at least 24 hours before the procedure to avoid elevated heart rate and dehydration.

🛌 4. Rest and Nutrition

Proper rest and nutrition help prepare your body for the procedure:

  • Get a full night’s sleep before surgery
  • Stay well-hydrated in the 48 hours leading up to the operation
  • Eat a light breakfast on the morning of the procedure (unless told otherwise)
  • Avoid heavy, spicy, or greasy meals that may upset your stomach

🧴 5. Hair & Scalp Care Before Surgery

  • Wash your hair thoroughly the night before or morning of surgery using a mild shampoo
  • Do not use hair gel, spray, wax, or any styling product
  • Refrain from using topical hair loss treatments (like minoxidil) 3 days before the procedure unless instructed otherwise
  • If you wear a hairpiece or wig, stop using it at least 3 days prior to allow your scalp to breathe

👕 6. What to Wear on Surgery Day

Comfort is key. On the day of your operation:

  • Wear loose, button-up or zip-up clothing
  • Avoid t-shirts or tight-neck tops that must be pulled over the head
  • Do not wear jewelry or accessories
  • Bring a clean face mask (if required by local health guidelines)

🌤 7. Transportation and Planning Ahead

  • Arrange transportation to and from the clinic as you may not be fit to drive after the procedure
  • If you’re traveling from abroad, plan to arrive at least one day before your surgery for final consultations
  • Avoid scheduling important meetings, flights, or physical activities for 3–5 days post-operation

📱 8. What to Bring With You

  • A government-issued ID or passport
  • Your medical documents (if applicable)
  • List of medications or allergies
  • Personal comfort items (e.g., earphones, book, charger)

We provide all surgical materials, post-op bandages, and aftercare kits at the clinic.

Final Checklist: 24 Hours Before Surgery

  • No alcohol or caffeine
  • Eat a light dinner
  • Pack comfortable clothes
  • Wash your hair (no products)
  • Avoid medications unless cleared
  • Sleep at least 7–8 hours
  • Arrive on time with a calm, relaxed mindset
